General Contract Queries

How do I know that you will provide as good a service as my current supplier?

We offer excellent customer service by specializing in the business sector. Our market knowledge allows us to tailor services to your needs, such as providing all our customers with a named contact. We do not operate large anonymous call centers. All our staff are UK based and when you call us you will speak to someone who understands your needs.

I do not pay my current supplier by Direct Debit. Why should I pay you this way?

Like other organisations that use direct debit payment we can keep the costs of administration down and pass on the benefits to you. The majority of our customers take advantage of this payment method.

For customers who want predictable electricity prices and straightforward contracts our Budget products provide fixed monthly outgoings, tailored to individual needs and based on direct debit payment. We will not change the amount of your direct debit without notifying you. By having a fixed amount each month your business cashflow will be more predictable.

I have never heard of you. Why should I go to a service I know nothing about?

Haven Power was established in 2006 and is now part of the Drax Power Group, one of the UK's largest independent power companies and a major generator of electricity. Drax Power Station near Selby, North Yorkshire currently meets about 7 percent of the UK's electricity needs. Our current portfolio of customers includes some well known names such as Muller Yogurt, Black and Decker, Thornton's.

We are very happy with our current supplier

We are confident that we can improve on the service you currently enjoy. Unlike many other larger suppliers we just specialise in the supply of electricity to the business sector and our sole focus and understanding is around the energy needs of business customers.

What are you doing to limit the effects of carbon emissions?

The Drax Power Group has a long-standing commitment to carbon reduction. The Drax Power Station near Selby, North Yorkshire, is currently the largest, cleanest and most efficient coal-fired station in the UK. Through undertaking the largest steam turbine modernisation project in UK history and the largest renewable, biomass co-firing project in the world, Drax is set to reduce its emission of carbon dioxide by over three and a half million tonnes each year.

Electricity from specific renewable sources is exempt from the CCL and is entitled to Levy Exemption Certificates (LECs). Haven acquire the LEC's when purchasing the power and can offer them to customers choosing a levy exempt electricity contract.

In addition particularly for smaller customers we promote smart metering, which is becoming recognised as a powerful tool to help customers reduce energy consumption.

I have heard of many bad experiences with customers changing supplier - why should you be different?

We will do it all for you! Once we have collected the basic data we will handle the whole process to transfer your supply. Our systems have been developed specifically for the business market and have been carefully designed to handle the transfer process as seamlessly as possible. We will keep you informed of progress at all stages.
We aim to keep things simple and provide a complete service with minimum effort from you.

What do I do if I am moving out of my property or no longer want the supply?

Please refer to the Customer Information section of our website which sets out clearly the process.

What is a deemed contract?

This type of contract applies to customers in the following circumstances:

  • When there is a change of tenancy and the incoming customer uses the supply but has not negotiated a contract with Haven; or
  • When an existing customer fails to renew their contract, or does not change to another supplier at the end of the contracted period, the customer will automatically transfer to a deemed contract.

Haven will do all it can to avoid such situations occurring. We publish the rates for our deemed contracts on our website.

What is an unmetered supply (UMS)?

In some cases it is not practical to install metering for an electricity supply and where the load is constant and predictable, such as street lighting an unmetered supply (UMS) is more appropriate. Because the usage pattern is predictable and agreed by the customer it allows suppliers to accurately calculate the cost of providing the supply and charge the customer a fixed monthly amount. However, this type of contract relies on the customer notifying Haven of any changes to the supply at any time.

What should I do if I lose my electricity supply or any other emergency?

To report any power cut or incident associated with your immediate electricity network please call the Distribution Network Operator(DNO). We include this number on your bill or you can use the link below.

What are Deemed Contract Rates?

Typically, deemed contract rates will apply where a premises continues to be supplied by Haven Power after the occupier moves out and a new occupier moves in and consumes electricity without entering into a formal contract for supply of electricity. Under the Electricity Supply Licence Haven Power is required to publish such rates (Deemed/Out of Contract Rates) which are included in our Terms and Conditions.

What are Out of Contract Rates?

When a contract between Haven Power and a customer has passed the contract end date, the customer has not accepted any revised prices from Haven Power for a further contract period and no other supplier is responsible for supplying electricity to that site, then Haven Power will charge the customer Out of Contract rates for the electricity consumed. Under the Electricity Supply Licence Haven Power is required to publish such rates (Deemed/Out of Contract Rates) which are included in our Terms and Conditions.
