HAVEN POWER SECURES LONG-TERM FUTURE
In a multi-million pound deal, Haven Power, the national business electricity supplier based in Ipswich, is now part of Drax Group plc – one of the UK’s leading independent power companies which meets around 7% of the UK’s electricity needs.
Since it was established in 2006, Haven Power has rapidly expanded and now supplies electricity to over 22,000 small and medium sized businesses nationwide – from its sales and operations centre on the Ransomes Europark which employs almost 150 people.
The acquisition by Drax has secured Haven Power’s long term future and will enable it to move ahead with its ambitious expansion programme. It has also brought added value through its powerful trading book and access to additional electricity customers.
Like Haven Power, Drax is firmly committed to a greener future.
The Drax Power Station near Selby, North Yorkshire, is currently the largest, cleanest and most efficient coal-fired station in the UK. Through undertaking the largest steam turbine modernisation project in UK history and the largest renewable, biomass co-firing project in the world, Drax is set to reduce its emission of carbon dioxide by over three and a half million tonnes each year. In addition, Drax has announced its intention to develop a 900MW dedicated biomass-fired generation business through a strategic partnership with Siemens Project Ventures.
Haven Power offers business customers Haven Green – a product based on renewable resources – as part of its range of simple business contracts, as well as promoting Smart Metering, a powerful tool to reduce energy consumption. The purpose-designed Haven Power Business Centre also features the latest environmental technology, including automatically switched and daylight sensitive lighting, heat recovery systems and free outside air cooling.
Peter Bennell, CEO of Haven Power is delighted with the new development.
“By joining Drax Group, we are able to take our business to the next stage. With the backing of one of the leading European power businesses, we have the resources to continue to expand our business and bring greater economic and employment benefits to the local area. We can also develop those parts of our business that will help reduce the environmental impact of our industry and UK business.”
