Quantitative Analyst
Ipswich based
Salary c. £20,000 to £27,000

Are you mathematically skilled and looking to commence a career within a fast paced and dynamic organisation?

Why not think about a job in electricity supply? These days power is traded in wholesale markets like other commodities through a range of derivative instruments. Indeed, the onward march of information technology is now even allowing larger business customers to engage in quasi-trading activities such as deciding when to lock in prices for their prospective consumption.

Modelling key variables like power price and customer demand presents some really difficult mathematical challenges and at Haven Power we are presently looking for people who are mathematically skilled, yet pragmatic and have an interest in commodity markets. We have a particular opening for a quantitative analyst – a demand forecaster who can take a fresh look at this activity, research the potential application of advanced mathematical techniques and help to implement the chosen approach in a practical way. There will be an opportunity to assist with broader trading and risk management activities.

Our culture is very different from that of the larger electricity companies in the UK. We cannot be complacent and our competitive advantage derives primarily from excellent customer service and reacting quickly to market changes. There is a buzz of activity and excitement. Everyone’s contribution to the business is apparent and measurable.

If you find the description above appealing and you have (or expect to obtain) at least a 2:1 honours degree in maths or a subject with a significant mathematical content, we’d like to hear from you. Please ring or email Claire Simpson (01473 707791 claire.simpson@havenpower.com) or Stuart Harland (01473 707720 stuart.harland@havenpower.com) for a role profile and further discussion.
