Sustainability criteria for biomass generators to be enhanced

The Department of Energy and Climate Change published its consultation on biomass power generation on Friday 7 September. The consultation focused on the sustainability and affordability of generating power from biomass. The first part DECC's consultation on the technology proposed imposing a requirement for solid-wood fuel to be drawn from sustainably managed forests and for tighter limits on carbon emissions. Responses are requested on this until 30 November. The second part of the consultation proposed reducing support for standard co-firing to 0.3Rocs/MWh from 1 April 2013 and limiting the percentage of the RO that suppliers can meet with power generated by new dedicated biomass plant. Views are invited on this until 19 October.
