EU energy ministers must recognise benefits of 2030 renewable energy targets: EWEA

The European Wind Energy Association warned EU energy ministers their credibility will be at risk if they debate renewable energy policy without considering targets for 2030 on Friday 14 September. Head of regulatory affairs Stephane Bourgeois said it made "no sense" to ignore a policy that has been successful until now, and called on politicians to recognise the value of targets. Bourgeois added that an EU renewables policy could not be based only on emissions reductions and decarbonisation, "as some ministers might wish". Only by enabling investment in renewables could the EU cut the cost of fuel imports and create jobs.
