Energy Bill to include carbon intensity target

Committee on Climate Change member David Kennedy revealed that the revised draft Energy Bill will include a carbon intensity target range of between 50gCO2/kWh-100gCO2/kWh at National Grid's Future Energy Scenarios' event on Thursday 28 September. Kennedy said it would not be "sensible" to commit to the lowest proposed level "come what may", but he called on the government to demonstrate its commitment to the low-carbon economy. He added a 50gCO2/kWh energy mix could include 40% renewables energy, 38% nuclear power, 14% gas with carbon capture and storage technology, and 8% unabated gas-fired power.
