UK could more than double its offshore wind energy targets

Renewable energy consultancy Senergy published a report on Thursday 27 September demonstrating the UK could have 38GW of offshore wind generation by 2020, more than double its 18GW target. The study Senergy considered the development plans and grid connection capacities of all current and planned wind projects across the country. It claimed the UK's 18GW target for 2020 could be surpassed as early as 2017. UK and Northern Europe regional power engineering manager Jason Hill said on Friday the study was a "significant endorsement" of the UK's offshore wind capabilities. However, it also showed the need for industry to address opportunities "as a matter of urgency".
