Which? calls for independent review of “broken” energy market

Consumer group Which? described the energy market as "broken" in an open letter to prime minister David Cameron on Wednesday 17 October. The consumer group said consumers doubt whether they are paying a "fair" price for gas and electricity. Which? executive director Richard Lloyd said the Office of Gas and Electricity Market's proposals to change the market were "not enough" and an independent review into the rising cost of domestic bills was necessary. He argued the review would need to consider suppliers' justifications for recent price hikes, and identify what reporting measures should be required of companies. Such a review would "increase transparency" and assure consumers "everything possible" was being done to keep prices down, Lloyd concluded.
