Investors need energy policy certainty, not more targets: CBI
Financiers looking to make investment decisions in the energy sector require "substantive policy detail" rather than carbon targets, according to CBI deputy director-general Neil Bentley on Thursday 18 October. But Bentley stressed the government's upcoming Energy Bill must deliver the pace of decarbonisation required to meet the UK's carbon budgets. He said the business sector needed more clarity on the money available for incentive payments beyond the current 2015 horizon, and assurance the legislation would work for the most at-risk energy-intensive businesses. However, Bentley concluded the government must not "fall victim to paralysis by analysis"--finalised policy was necessary so that investment decisions were not stalled.
