Small businesses set to get fairer deal on energy under Ofgem’s proposals

Over 150,000 more small businesses would benefit from greater protection under the updated Retail Market Review non-domestic proposals, the regulator said on Friday 26 October. A consultation issued by the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem) set out the detail of the proposals, which include the development of a single code of conduct for third party intermediaries. Views are being sought on the content and scope as well as consideration of the legal framework. Ofgem is looking to extend the existing protections currently given to micro-businesses to small businesses and introduce binding standards of conduct when suppliers are dealing with small businesses. Responses are requested by 21 December.
