Huhne launches £860mn renewable heat scheme
On Thursday 10 March energy and climate change secretary Chris Huhne launched the much-anticipated details of the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). The new financial incentive has been designed to encourage the installation of technologies such as renewable heat pumps, solar thermal panels and biomass boilers. The tariffs paid under the scheme range from 1.9p/kWh for a tier 2 small biomass boiler to 8.5p/kWh for a solar thermal installation.
RHI payments will begin alongside the Green Deal in 2012, but in the meantime 25,000 domestic installations will be supported by RHI Premium Payments from July this year.
