Strategy for nuclear clean-up approved by the Government

On Monday 21 March the Government approved plans set out by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) to decommission the UK's oldest nuclear power stations. Department of Energy and Climate Change junior minister Lord Marland said it was "fundamental" to tackle the nuclear legacy now "rather than leave it to future generations".
The strategy sets out plans to decommission the Harwell and Winfrith sites, to deliver "significant inroads" at Sellafield and Dounreay and start work on a permanent geological storage site by 2020.
