IPPR calls for innovation in energy sector

The Institute of Public Policy Research (IPPR) published its New Era Economics programme pamphlet on Thursday 2 December. It called for the Government's economic policy to be "innovation centred, pragmatic and aware". The pamphlet said that there are various "sensible suggestions" to help the shift towards a low-carbon economy, including: financial support for research and development; greater collaboration between companies and universities to drive innovation; the creation of niche markets through procurement; and financial help to infant industries such as renewables technologies.
