Government questioned about market reform and nuclear subsidy

The Energy and Climate Change Committee released a report on the proposed electricity market reform (EMR) on Monday 16 May. The report said the Government needs to be clearer over the possible subsidies nuclear power could receive and the reforms should not be "skewed" just so ministers can "save face" over promises made not to subsidise nuclear power. Committee chair Tim Yeo said: "The Government must be up-front about the support it is giving to nuclear and not hide subsidies in a one-size-fits-all design for long-term energy contracts". He added that it would be irresponsible to skew the whole EMR package to "save face".
