Eurotunnel interconnection plans announced

Groupe Eurotunnel and STAR Capital Partners announced a joint venture to develop an electricity interconnector using the channel tunnel on Thursday 26 May. The two partners have completed technical appraisals and worked out that it will cost €250mn to install a 500MW direct current interconnector in the service tunnel for the Channel Tunnel, which will increase the capacity of UK-France interconnection by 25%. The two partners said that interconnection between European states is a priority and the project will play an important role in developing European infrastructure.
