Businesses to benefit from CRC simplification
The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) announced proposals on Thursday 30 June to rationalise the Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency (CRC) Scheme. DECC plans to make the scheme easier and more straightforward so that there is a reduction in the administrative burden on businesses. There will also greater certainty for participants because DECC wants to change the allowance purchase process from auctions to fixed price sales so companies do not have to work out auctioning strategies. DECC also wants more flexibility in how to take part and a reduction in overlap with other climate policies including Climate Change Agreements and the EU Emissions Trading Scheme. Climate change minister Greg Barker said the Government has got to help businesses reduce their emissions, "not strangle them with red tape."
