New wave power device unveiled in Scotland

Marine technology developer Aquamarine Power unveiled its next-generation hydroelectric wave convertor on Wednesday 13 July. The Oyster 800 can generate 250% more power at a third of the cost of the first full-scale Oyster device. The first 800kW device will be transported to the European Marine Energy Centre in Orkney for installation, with a further two units being deployed in 2012 and 2013. The three devices will be linked to an onshore hydroelectric plant in a 2.4MW array. Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond said it was "a significant day" for both the company and Scotland's wider offshore renewables sector.
