Government makes progress towards energy efficiency action plan
The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) published an update on the progress made towards the requirements of the Energy End-Use Efficiency and Energy Services Directive (ESD) 2006 on Thursday 28 July. The Directive requires EU member states to establish a national indicative energy saving target of 9% to be met by the end of 2016. The report from DECC said the UK will exceed this target and could achieve a 14% reduction over the target period, equivalent to 66.2mn t CO2. The household sector is expected to see the largest savings, contributing 61% of the total expected savings by 2016.
