IPC delivers first planning decision…
The Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC) announced it had issued its first planning decision on Thursday 13 October. The IPC decided to grant consent to Covanta Rookery South for its the application for a 65MW energy-from-waste generating station. The Commission reached its decision following a six-month examination of the application, but still needs to go through the parliamentary process because it involves the compulsory purchase of land. Energy minister Charles Hendry welcomed the news; he said the project would be an important part of the UK's energy security. Hendry said he was pleased the IPC delivered a decision on time and noted it is "vital for investors and for local communities that when it comes to major energy projects, [the country has] a planning process that people can have confidence in."
