Durban must build on Kyoto, says Huhne
Energy and climate change secretary Chris Huhne said the upcoming Durban climate change conference "must build on what Kyoto began" in an article published in the Telegraph on Saturday 26 November. Monday 28 November is the first day of the two-week long UN climate conference in Durban. Huhne noted that time was running out to limit global average temperature to 2˚C and said "a global deal covering all major economies is a necessity". He said a deal among only EU countries will cover just 12% of global emissions and will not amount to much. He said the UK wants to secure a second commitment period for the Kyoto Protocol, but Durban must provide the legal framework for this.
