Ex-UN climate chief urges businesses to prepare for low-carbon world
Former UN climate chief Yvo de Boer has told businesses that 2012 is the year to prepare for a low-carbon economy reported newswire Environmental Leader on Friday 6 January. He said businesses received a clear message from international negotiations at Durban that governments are serious about tackling climate change. He said the climate negotiations in Durban clearly show that market-based mechanisms such carbon trading will continue and there will be increasing reporting guidelines for businesses on carbon emissions. The certainty provided by the extension of the Kytoto protocol and an international agreement on greenhouse gas reporting will drive "profound" changes in businesses according to Environmental Leader.
