Prime minister calls for transparency on business carbon emissions

Prime minister Davd Cameron said business was the most powerful source for social progress in a speech to the Business in the Community conference on Thursday 23 February. He noted consumers may soon be able to compare a company's environmental or community performance as a result of plans to open up business data. Cameron said "the vast majority of good business goes under the radar", adding the government wanted to change this so businesses receive public recognition. Consumers could soon make purchasing decisions based on a company's carbon emissions or green credentials, so the government wants firms "to lead, devise and shape this new era of transparency."
