DECC looks to simplify CCA scheme
The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) opened a consultation on Thursday 29 March on its approach to take the Climate Change Agreements (CCA) scheme forward beyond the current expiry date of March 2013. The CCAs set the terms under which energy-intensive industries can obtain 65% exemptions from the Climate Change Levy. In January the government published its response to a September 2011 consultation, which confirmed the scheme will be extended until 2023. The current consultation sets out the detail of simplifying the scheme by amalgamating all the different agreements in use into one agreement type. Accompanying the consultation is a number of documents including revised draft agreements and rules, and revised charging proposals. Responses are invited until 25 May.
