IEA calls for “decisive policy action” to transform energy system

On Monday 11 June the International Energy Agency (IEA) published a report on the potential of new renewable energy technologies to transform the energy system. The report builds on a previous IEA report released in April which argued that despite progress renewables were not on track to deliver necessary CO2 savings. Energy Technology Perspectives 2012 explored methods of revolutionising the energy system. IEA executive director Maria van der Hoeven said there was still a "golden opportunity" for these technologies to achieve their "huge" potential, if meaningful policy action was taken. She called on governments to "wake up to the dangers of complacency" and implement the changes necessary to transform the energy system.
