Big Six profits announcement met with criticism

Following the release of Big Six energy supplier Centrica's interim results on Thursday 26 July, customers have been shocked by the increased in profits according to consumer watchdog, Consumer Focus. Director of energy Audrey Gallacher argued a "disconnection" between profits and prices risks deepening consumer mistrust over energy bills. Customers needed to know they were being charged a "fair" price through a competitive and transparent market. Shadow energy and climate change secretary Caroline Flint also criticised Centrica, and said the government's Energy Bill would "do nothing" to break the dominance of the Big Six or to prevent consumers from being "ripped off".
