ADE finds DSR can bridge capacity gap
The industrial, commercial and public sectors are able to provide 9.8GW of demand side response (DSR) to bridge the upcoming capacity gap by 2020, research from the Association for Decentralised Energy (ADE) has found. Released on Tuesday 19 July, the report also found a net consumer saving of £2.3bn by 2035 if 4GW of DSR is procured under the capacity market. The ADE further showed the scale of DSR available could result in a reduction in network investment cost, making a saving of up to £8.1bn/ year by 2030. In order to realise these benefits, the ADE recommended DSR providers be allowed independent access and participation in the wholesale market and balancing mechanism, as well as equal access to the capacity market.
