BEIS announces funding for energy innovation projects
The department announced on Wednesday 25 January that £28mn will be invested in smart systems, industrial energy reduction and offshore wind. Up to £9mn will be spent on a competition to reduce the cost of energy storage, while £7.6mn will be made available to advancing demand-side response technologies. A competition for an industrial energy efficiency accelerator to explore new ways to improve the energy efficiency of UK industry will receive £9mn of funding. The funding forms part of the government’s commitment to double support for energy innovation, up to £400mn per year in 2021.
