BEIS consults on changes to CfD cost exemption for energy intensives
The department opened a consultation on Friday 22 July on a series of planned changes to its policy for exempting energy-intensive industries (EIIs) from the indirect costs of the contract for difference (CfD) scheme. BEIS said that, without intervention, EIIs could face significant increases in their energy bills. Among the proposals are safeguards to ensure that the exemption is only received by those businesses eligible for it, and measures to prevent exemption certificates for lasting six months or less––as is possible under the current arrangements. BEIS is also consulting on measures to support the planned transition to an exemption scheme for EIIs for the indirect costs of the Renewables Obligation and small-scale feed-in tariff programme. Responses are invited by 26 August.
