BEIS revises ECO extension plans
The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme will be extended through to September 2018––six months longer than had earlier been planned––under reforms announced by BEIS. On Monday 30 January the department responded to its Help to Heat proposals, on which it consulted last year. It confirmed that the ECO extension period would run for 18 months “in order to provide industry with a longer period to transition” to the reformed scheme. In line with earlier proposals, the programme will, during the extension period, be refocused onto fuel poor homes, while BEIS has increased the required level of solid wall insulation to an equivalent of 21,000 measures/ year.
