BEIS seeks views on system flexibility
The department and Ofgem opened a call for evidence on Thursday 10 November on developing a more flexible energy system. The document covered a range of issues including the removal of policy and regulatory barriers for storage, the roles of different parties in system and network operation, and providing price signals for flexibility. The government said its approach would be rooted in enabling markets to deliver on price, quality and choice, and would allow flexible solutions to compete with more traditional ones. Responses to the document, invited by 12 January, will help shape a plan that is likely to be published in spring 2017.
