Business group hails major energy reforms

The Competition and Markets Authority’s (CMA) package of reforms for the energy sector represent a “big win” for small businesses, according to an industry group. In a statement on Friday 24 June the Federation of Small Businesses said that the remedies should “see businesses benefit from clear, comparable energy deals”. It also welcomed the CMA’s decision to end “unfair auto-rollovers”, saying it will guarantee businesses are not forced into further fixed-term contracts; however, it expressed concerns at the lack of regulation around Third Party Intermediaries. Mike Cherry, FSB national chairman, said: “[Friday’s] CMA decision is a big win for FSB and for small businesses up and down the country. Transparency and fairness should be at the heart of a functioning energy market for small firms.”
