Business group presses for smart meter review

The Institute of Directors (IoD) has called for a re-evaluation of the smart meter programme after finding widespread concern among businesses about its cost. A survey issued by the group on Friday 23 September suggested that less than 1% of business leaders would be willing to meet the £400 cost per household of the programme in order to have a smart meter installed, with over three quarters of respondents saying they would be unwilling to pay more than £100. Smart Energy GB, the national campaign for the smart meter roll-out, said the IoD’s findings were based on an “inaccurate proposition” and could not be taken as representative of consumers across the country.
