Businesses doubt UK energy security
Nearly six in 10 (58%) businesses believe the UK could face an energy shortage in the next five years, a survey by Bircham Dyson Bell has found. The research, published last week in the company’s Energy Crunch white paper, suggested that two thirds of businesses had contingency plans in place for the possibility of power outages. It said that firms’ biggest concerns were that power cuts would cause business interruption and loss of earnings, as well as jeopardising the security of their premises or equipment. The survey also found that just under half (46%) of businesses were seeing their consumption of energy increase, while for around two in 10 (21%) the opposite was true.
