Businesses seek government backing on energy efficiency

Over a third (36%) of businesses across England and Wales believe that the government should seek to drive energy efficiency among their organisations by offering grants, according to a survey. The findings, published on Friday 29 April by the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) and British Gas, showed that only 13% of businesses had seen a decrease in their energy costs over the last three years, compared to 35% that had seen their costs rise. Just under a quarter (23%) of the largest firms said that they had not taken action on energy efficiency as other investments had taken priority, while 15% of businesses said that the savings on offer would not be worth the upfront costs.
