Capacity market provisional results published
The T-4 2016 capacity market auction cleared on Thursday 8 December, with 52,425.302MW of capacity procured at a clearing price of £22.50/kW per year. The provisional results revealed that 4,779MW of the volume of capacity agreements awarded was for new or refurbishing capacity. Storage constituted 3201MW (6.11%) of capacity awarded an agreement, while demand-side response secured 1,410MW (2.69%) of agreements. New gas-fired capacity to secure an agreement included Centrica’s 370MW CCGT at King’s Lynn. Capacity that did not secure an agreement included SSE’s Peterhead and Fiddler’s Ferry power stations. National Grid re-iterated that the results of the auction remain provisional until confirmation by business, energy and industrial strategy secretary Greg Clark on 20 December.
