Carbon prices to recover slowly from current lows, says analyst
A new report by Thomson Reuters has suggested that the European carbon price will recover only slowly from its current slump. The study, issued on Tuesday 1 March, explored 16 possible future price paths, concluding that the carbon price was most likely to average €10/t in 2020 and €26/t in 2030 (in 2015 real terms). “We expect the shaken market confidence to result in a slow price recovery from current lows, leading to an average price of €6.6/t in 2016”, said Marcus Ferdinand, head of EU carbon analysis at Thomson Reuters. This is 14% below the average in 2015 but some way up from the current price level of around €5/t.
