CCC sets date for Fifth Carbon Budget
The Committee on Climate Change (CCC) has confirmed that it will publish its advice to Parliament on the level of the Fifth Carbon Budget on 26 November. Carbon budgets place restrictions on the total amount of greenhouse gases the UK can emit over a five-year period in order to meet the UK’s goal of reducing emissions by 80% by 2050 based on 199 0 levels. The Fifth Carbon Budget will cover the period 2028-32. It follows on from the Fourth Carbon Budget, which has been legislated in line with the committee’s advice at 1,950MtCO2e, implying a reduction in emissions of 50% by 2025, relative to 1990.
