Chancellor urged to make key energy decisions in Autumn Statement

The CBI has called on chancellor Phillip Hammond to use the Autumn Statement to provide investors with clarity on the future direction of energy policy. In a submission to the Treasury on Thursday 27 October, the CBI said policy changes over the past year had undermined confidence in the sector, and that long-term stability was needed. It said that the statement should be used to: set out the timing of the next contracts for difference auction; provide clarity on Levy Control Framework funding; confirm that the freeze to the Carbon Price Floor will be maintained beyond 2020; and to reaffirm the fiscal programme set out for North Sea oil and gas operators.
