CMA plans transitional price control for pre-payment market
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has confirmed plans to implement a temporary price cap for prepayment meter customers. The authority issued the provisional remedies for its energy market investigation on Thursday 10 March. Further proposals included the removal of the four-tariff rule, and the creation of an Ofgem-controlled database that would allow rival suppliers to contact domestic and microbusiness customers who have been on their supplier’s default tariff for three years or more in order to offer better deals. The CMA will now consult on these remedies, with submissions invited until 7 April. The final report will be published in June.
