DECC consults on including retrofit CCS in CfD programme
DECC opened a consultation on Wednesday 4 November on its proposals for ensuring that retrofit carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects were eligible for a contract for difference (CfD). Under the terms of the existing regulations, a power station that retrofitted a CCS system would be ineligible for a contract. Subject to Parliamentary approval, the intention would be to implement this change to the regulations on a timescale that would facilitate “all possible outcomes” of DECC’s CCS commercialisation competition, but the amendment to provide for retrofit CCS projects would be of general application and not limited to these projects. Responses are invited by 2 December.
