DECC consults on supporting innovation
DECC opened a consultation on Friday 15 January on ensuring that regulation in the energy sector supports innovation. The consultation seeks views relating to the activities of DECC and the Oil and Gas Authority in three particular areas: how legislation and enforcement frameworks can help to support new technologies and business models to encourage growth; how new technologies are likely to shape the energy sector; and how regulators can better utilise new technologies to generate efficiency savings and reduce burdens on businesses. DECC junior minister Lord Bourne said the government was committed to cutting red tape and creating an environment that fostered new ideas. Responses are invited by 11 February.
