E3G warns of dangers in Brexit energy negotiations

Research by E3G into the impact of Brexit negotiations on energy and climate issues has indicated that the most likely outcome under current drivers is “hostile nationalism”. The think tank warned that without concessions from both sides, this would likely lead to an escalation in hard-line positions. The report, published on Wednesday 5 April, found that the probability of a successful outcome on energy and climate change from Brexit could be increased through the creation of a cooperation track on these issues within the negotiations. Creating a space to discuss future cooperation on energy, among other issues, increases the outcomes for these policy areas for both sides. E3G added that a cooperation track would also reduce the chance of a “crash Brexit”, which would “damage everyone.”
