Energy price cap to feature in Conservative election manifesto

The Conservative Party has committed to intervention in the energy markets, should it win the general election on 8 June. Appearing on ITV’s Peston on Sunday programme on Sunday 23 April, Work and Pensions Secretary Damian Green confirmed that an energy price cap would be in the Conservative manifesto, saying “Some people feel the energy companies have taken advantage of them”. Green added: “we would have Ofgem setting the limits so it would be a cap, so it would be more flexible, it would be able to reflect market conditions so the market would still have an influence.” In response, Andrew Gwynne, Labour’s National Elections and Campaign Coordinator said: “Time and again they’ve promised action but when it comes to it they broke those promises. Under them energy bills have soared.”
