ETI appoints Akins for storage project

The Energy Technologies Institute (ETI) has selected Atkins to deliver a project that will examine the potential for storing hydrogen underground in salt caverns that can then be used in power generation in gas turbines. The ETI is investing £170,000 in the six-month project, which follows on from a report it published last year highlighting the potential role hydrogen storage could play in a "responsive" power system. This project will identify and examine salt caverns in Cheshire, Teesside and East Yorkshire that could store hydrogen to be used in power generation.
