EU Member States back proposal to invest in energy infrastructure projects

EU Member States have agreed on a proposal from the European Commission that will see €444mn invested in key European energy infrastructure projects. The funding, from the Connecting Europe Facility, will fund 18 electricity, smart grids and gas projects, including a study into a UK-Norway interconnector, and the implementation of a compressed air energy storage project in Northern Ireland. Climate Action and Energy Commissioner Miguel Arias Cañete said: “An energy infrastructure which is fit for purpose is essential for renewables to thrive. Thanks to this upgrade, the proposals in the Clean Energy for All Europeans package are even closer to become a reality.”
