European Commission promises funds for energy efficiency

The European Commission has confirmed that a key funding programme will continue to support the development of the energy efficiency market. In a statement on Wednesday 1 June, the Commission proposed that its European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) would be extended beyond its initial three-year period to address “remaining market gaps and failures”. It said that energy efficiency had “undoubtedly” been one of the most successful areas under the ESFI; moreover, it confirmed that the programme would continue to contribute to the development of the market for green projects through the development of a green bond market in Europe and improved coordination of existing efforts.
