European offshore wind sees record investment in first half of year
The European offshore wind industry attracted a record €14bn in new investments during the first six months of 2016, an industry group has confirmed. As study by Wind Europe, issued on Wednesday 27 July, said that seven projects had reached Final Investment Decision over the period, representing 3.7GW of new capacity overall. The volume of new grid-connected installations in the first half of 2016 was 511MW––78% down on the same period in 2015. This was expected to pick up next year and toward 2020. Giles Dickson, CEO of Wind Europe, said there remained uncertainty over future volumes and regulation in many key markets.
