Europe’s biggest five power markets add 8GW of wind and solar in first half
Wind and solar power capacity in Europe’s five biggest power markets grew by around 8GW in the first half of 2015 with Germany and the UK registering the biggest gains, according to Platts. Published on Friday 14 August, the analyst’s Renewables Power Tracker showed that Germany added 2.9GW of wind and 0.6GW of solar over the period, taking the technologies’ installed capacity to 42.2GW and 38.6GW respectively. Output from wind and solar in the five markets in July was a combined 24.7TWh, some 25% above the levels recorded a year ago, with most of the gains coming in northern Europe. German wind output increased 156% year-on-year.
