Future new nuclear projects must come in at lower price: EEF

Manufacturers’ organisation EEF has said that it “remains to be seen” whether the planned new nuclear power project at Hinkley Point C will offer value for money. Speaking on Thursday 15 September, head of climate and environment policy Claire Jakobsson said that, if nuclear power were to continue to play a major role in the generation mix, future projects would need to deliver “significant” reductions in the strike price agreed for Hinkley. She added: “With such a large amount of subsidy going into this project it is essential that the government ensures the opportunities for the UK economy are maximised, particularly for manufacturers.”
