Government complacent on energy security: SNP

The Scottish National Party (SNP) has called for action from the UK government to boost the security of the UK’s electricity supply. The party’s energy spokesperson, Callum McCaig, said the issuing of a NISM by National Grid on 4 November had been a “worrying indication” that the electricity supply situation was increasingly vulnerable, and that the government was “stumbling from crisis to crisis”. He said: “This week I will be calling for action on a number of fronts from the UK energy secretary including––action on transmission charges which put Scottish power stations at an automatic and totally unfair disadvantage and a change to the Tories’ disastrous policy on renewables investment––widely criticised by the industry.”
